Then and now
Jamie Dunn, B105 entertainer
The teen picture?
It was taken in 1970. I was 19, backstage at an open-air
rock concert at Helidon Spa on the Toowoomba Road. I was the
drummer for the Brisbane band Hands Down.
What were your dreams as a teenager?
I had set my mind on being a rock star at that stage of
my life and believe me, when this photo was taken I thought I
was there!
Are you where you imagined you would be?
I always knew I would end up in entertainment somewhere
but I never dreamed I would have been a puppet and on radio.
Most memorable/embarrassing teen moment?
I was doing a daytime show in a nightclub. I walked
straight through a back door and on to the stage — going from
bright Queensland sunshine to total darkness. I couldn't see
the audience, but they could see me as I walked straight off
the stage, dropping my cymbals and landing on all fours.
Most valuable teen lesson?
Turn up on time, give it your best and charge for it.
What do you wish you had known?
That there were many more varied and wonderful uses for
my "jimmywibble" than I had ever imagined.
What do you miss from your teenage years?
Apart from hair, that "chemical" that's in you as a
teenager that makes you try to do absolutely anything without
embarrassment. You know . . . the bravado of youth.
