The female Falco Peregrinus (or wandering falcon) both physically and behaviourally dominates her mate.

She grows to 46-54cm in length, with males about two-thirds the size of their female counterparts.

Peregrine falcons are blue grey in colour on their upper parts, with a greyish abdomen criss-crossed by darker bars and yellow legs. The birds have dark heads and cheeks. Their beaks are slate blue with a black tip and a small tooth-like projection on the upper side.

One of the peregrine falcon's most distinguishing features is a dark “moustache” below the eyes.
